Taking a Gulf Vacation with the Kids? Here’s 5 Things to Try

Don’t dread taking the kids on vacation! There are plenty of fun, family-friendly things to do in Gulf Shores that grownups can enjoy, too. Here are some of our favorites.
  1. Go back in time.

Play your favorite tune on the jukebox while you treat the kids to burgers, fries, and sundaes at Sunliner Diner, a 50s-style diner with classic charm, throwback decor, and more. Ready to treat yourself? Try one of their boozy milkshakes, or a Bourbon Root Beer Float. Breakfast is served all-day at the Sunliner Diner!

         2.  Have a Picnic!

A day at the beach is a lot more fun when you know what’s for lunch. Picnic Beach is our favorite place for a healthy lunch, the best barbecue, or fruit smoothie while you and the family are on-the-go in Gulf Shores. With a full menu of nutritious options for pickup or delivery, tricking the kids into enjoying their veggies just got easier. And with lots of plant-based, vegan, and vegetarian choices, adults eat [guilt-]free.

         3. Explore an Island:

With three miles of Gulf-front beaches along Florida’s Emerald Coast, Okaloosa Island offers lots of bayfront relaxation, and plenty of room to play. After you’re done building sandcastles and shopping at the Boardwalk, enjoy a family dinner at The Gulf [We suggest trying the daily specials— and kids of all ages will love playing in the sand while you enjoy your oysters and tacos!].

      4. Play like a Pirate! (And Princess!)

There’s so much for your family to do in Gulf Shores, Alabama! After running from place to place and keeping up with the kids, we know you have to wonder why no one has invented a baby sitting company for traveling families (C’mon Mom, don’t feel bad).

Well, we don’t quite have that, but we do have our Pirates and Princesses Breakfast Adventure every summer starting May 28th, and it’s close enough.

Sit Back, Relax, and enjoy being served an All-You-Can-Eat Family style breakfast while the kids plays with Pirates and Princesses who play games with them, take them on treasure hunts around the restaurant and even perform magic tricks!

5. Fun and Games.

Don’t forget, there’s plenty of fun for the whole family right here at The Hangout!

No matter when you choose to visit, you and the kids can enjoy a wide range of fun activities:

  • Giant photo-ops at our Shaka Hand or on one of our huge Hangout Chairs
  • Free games (ping-pong), foosball, and more in the Courtyard
  • Fun in the sun in our outdoor Sand Pit
  • (Foam) Party time every hour on the hour ‘till 6 PM
  • A wish-wall that you can write notes on!
  • A one-stop fun-shop where you can grab cool tees, awesome gifts, and costumes for the kids.
  • Free live music every night!
